I am evaluating an existing building per ASCE 31-03 to check for compliance with life-safety performance level. Based on my preliminary calcs the building falls under the category of low seismicity, which per the ASCE document would lead me to Section 3.6 "Level of Low Seismicity Checklist". Now, my question is...do we have to do any calcs to answer the checklist? To be more specific, for checking the conformance for continuous load path, is it enough if we could verify the the building lateral system has a continuous load path, or do we even have to check the capacity of the individual elements in resisting the lateral loads. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
