Arrangements

The last place I worked they did not use arrangements, but now I am using them for my own business and I like it. I have a question though. I have an assembly with a few clamps for example. I can go into my clamps and with my mates, create arrangement specific mates say for open and closed with a different angle for each. The problem I am seeing is when I want to open my clamps I have to go into each one and set the arrangement I want to use. Is there a way to set it at the top level so that when I show open, they all open. I know I could use explosion to show but I like the arrangements and I believe there is more to them then what I know

Trying to do it from top level
When I try and add a mate, without going into the sub assembly, it wants to move the whole sub assembly
If I try and move a component in the sub assembly from the top level, it makes the sub assembly work part first

Use the Override Position option and it should works well.

The arrangement at the top level assembly can drive which arrangement to use in a lower assembly. Let's assume that your clamp is a subassembly and it has "clamp_open" and "clamp_closed" arrangements in it. Switch each clamp assembly to the "clamp_open" arrangement then create a new arrangement at the top level assembly ("all_clamps_open", perhaps) and save it. Repeat the process to create an "all_clamps_closed" arrangement at the top level. Now when you switch between these arrangements at the top level, the clamp arrangements will change as well.

Hi Brian,
Is the clamp assembly’s subcomponents set to Override Position state? RMB and select “Remove Position Override”.
If you have already created two Open and Close clamp arrangements, without using Override Position, use those arrangements at the higher level assembly arrangements.

I will try the other method and see which one I like better, thanks

If the clamp needs to be infinitely adjustable based on the top level assembly, then the override position option is probably your best bet. If the clamps only need a few predefined positions, then arrangements will work well.
