Area properties without BMX

Hi all,


I am trying to find a way to calculate the area of a specific surface automatically, and ultimately link it to an excel file. Unfortunately I don't have a license for behavioral modeller.


I am able to create an evaluate feature in the model tree using : insert --> model datum --> evaluate --> area


Is there any way I can extract the information in this feature to a parameter, a table in a drawing or any other useful format?

To create a parameter with the value....


in the model create the datum evaluate feature, noting the name you use for the measurement.


Create a parameter. Create a relation such as aa= area1:fid_feature_name, where feature_name is what appears in the model tree and area1 is the measurement name.


you now have a parameter you can use anywhere.

It did the trick, very easy. I do have another question though...





Is there any way to calculate the center of area of a surface directly? I know I can do this indirectly by thickening the surface, and calculating the center of gravity of the solid.

Datum evaluate doesn't provide that data. You need BMX to get x-section mass properties like the centroid.

Just as I thought. But I'm not sure BMX can do it either, because I am not after a cross section, but a 3D surface/quilt.

If you like I can send you a UDF that will automaticall measure a surface area and add the feature to the model tree. To use a parameter from a measurement you must have BMX and the feature must be in the model tree. If you want, contact me at pwolstenholme@fortvale.com
