Hello,

I am aware of the ASTM test for galling, but many researchers use point-contact type tests for galling studies. Is this appropriate? I would expect an artificially higher galling load. For example see:

Wiklund, I. M. Hutchings, Investigation of surface treatments for galling protection of titanium alloys, Wear, Volume 251, Issues 1-12, October 2001, Pages 1034-1041

Is it necessary to keep the test geometry in the elastic regime throughout the test? Thanks for any input.
