Hi,

I am attempting to model free fall of an object in dynamic, explicit. I am applying an initial velocity to the object and wish for gravity to contribute to the velocity thereafter. The object is falling in the negative Z direction.

In the load module I have selected gravity. I then select the object that is falling for the applied load region. It is at this stage that I am unsure what to enter to model a realistic gravity load.

Should I be applying -9.81 in the component 3 direction? Or should I be applying -1 in the component 3 direction to indicate the direction of the load and a scale factor of 1 for gravity? Or should I be doing something else?
Also I am leaving the amplitude as instantaneous in the hope that gravity remains constant throughout the procedure.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

-9.81 in the 3 direction with instantaneous should work.
For these sorts of questions a simple test case usually answers it for you. I hope this helps.
