"User guide for the inspection, maintenance and repair of above ground steel storage tanks"
EEMUA publication no. = 159

EEMUA is Engineering Equipment Manufacturers Users Association

Can you share your experience, and compare this with API 653:

Wall assessment.
Seal assessment (in case on wind storm)
Bottom assessment..
RBI
Etc..

I have the feeling that this EEMU is more detailed than API 653
(may be because I am used to it!!)

Not familiar with it- the description makes it sound rather comprehensive. Is one or the other mandated by government rules where you are? Do you need the extra complexity, if it is more thorough (that is not always a good thing!)

Another consideration is that API-653 is intended to be applied to API-650 tanks. It would make sense to try to apply the repair code that most matched the original code of construction.

I have not reviewed the EEMUA document in a few years, but my impression was that it seemed quite vague and not as detailed as API-653. I didn't see a lot of differences in content, but a lot of the details of repair and NDE seemed lacking. It seemed that the owner or tank engineer had to be far more knowledgeable to use EEMUA. Please allow for fact that it has been a few years ago that I browsed thru a copy. I'm sure it has changed since then.
