Generally, if the tank has been put in service, it will fall under API-653, however, API-653 will reference API-650 for many design and detailing aspects.

API 653 is the standard that would cover alterations to existing tanks. A major consideration for alteration or repair of existing tanks is safety. Many of the design details are similar to that of API 650.

Thank You JStephen & fegenbush,

Can you advice me few design consideration for this. The maximum nozzle size is 4", Location shell bottom course.

Dear All,

Nozzle size is 2" only on the shell side, I checked in the APi 653, i dint find the special consideration for this 2" nozzle. As per API 653 9.8.6 Insert plate shall be considered when the penetration larger than 2in NPS, Where as as per my case the nozzle size is only 2inch, So i think the insert plate & RF pad not required.

So please advise me any design consideration of requirement for install new 2" nozzle on the shell side.

Thanks in Advance :)
