Why are there two versions of the equation listed for Ai/Ac in E.4.6.1? If I use Ss/S1 the two equations equal (just as is suggested in the appendix) but, why substitute? It seems like if I can use the second equation, I have enough info to use the first. Is it simply a matter of breaking out the Q, so it may be used more conservatively as 1 (instead of 2/3) for areas not governed by ASCE 7?
