Hello,

I'm working on a API 620 tank, API 620 standard does not have a detailed description on how to design a flat bottom (5.11.2).

1. Can anybody explain to me briefly with references how to design a flat bottom per API 620 standard.
2. Can I use API 650 flat bottom design?
3. Does anybody has a calculation example that he can share?

Thanks,
Fax

There is not normally any design involved on a flat soil-supported bottom. The standards specify required thickness, material, welding requirements, etc. There are design issues when annular plates are required, or if used for seismic uplift resistance, if supported on grillage, etc.

Remember that API 620 and API 650 are separate codes and you are not supposed to intermingle their design criteria.
