My METCAL RFG-30 wand is now more not working than working. Seems to have a break in the wand. For a while I just kept my scope on. By wathing the trace I could see how far to twist it to make the connection. It looks like if I removed the plastic plug at the iron end and pushed with a split tube at the cord end I could get the internal connector to push out. Anyone have experience with repairing these? Advice would be appreciated before I do something I can't recover from.

The RFG-30 is the old style base unit. But I believe the wand has remained the same as Metcal has changed model numbers of the base unit. The wand number for the newer MX series base units is MX-RM3E, and I believe it's not too expensive. Used Metcal parts can be found on eBay also.

EBAY! That's where I got this one. Semms every time I really pay decent money for something there I have problems, the $20 items are always fantastic. Used wand comes to about $60 with shipping. There is a seller there that claims he repairs METCAL wands. Over a week and he hasn't returned my email. That at least gave an indication that these can be rpaired.
