ANSYS WB 10 - Contact Fundamental Question

Hi,

I'm new to using ANSYS. I have a simple question as to how the "compression only" and "add offset" commands behave in ANSYS 10.

Does the "compression only" move with the face as the solution iterates? ie. it stays normal to the face. Or is its reaction direction fixed per its initial orientation to the global coordinate system?

What does the manual mean by "except that the loading is ramped" when you set "Interface treatment" to "Add offset"? Does this mean it moves the mesh per the offset and stains the mesh similar to a displacement?

First answer:
Commpresion only, all perpendicilar dispacement are block in the element direction.

Second answer:
Loading is ramped means that the loading is applied in one step. This means contact elements are offseted with the given displacement.

To add to what ansysfreak said:

Compression only creates a rigid-flexible contact region at the specified location.

Loading is ramped instead of stepped. However, if you only have one substep in your analysis they are one and the same.
