I have a model of a 2m cubed box with a hole for a lid on top, this model has been produced in autodesk inventor and is thin (3mm thick). I have the inventor module for designmodeler and wish to bring it across.

I wish to perform a mid surface extraction of the solid model so that i can use shells. The problem i have is that the opening of the box has a flange that is thicker than the rest of the box, going from 3mm to 6mm. What is the best way to model this flange so that its connected to the rest of the box. I have done a mid-surface but the flange is offset from the rest of the box.

Thanks

Hi

You need to extrude the surface again and use the "add frozen" selection in the pulldown menu.
This wil make a new surface that you can give another thickness.

hoop it helps,

Sounds like you could also do a surface extension, assuming the offset you're describing is the 1/2-thickness offset created by creating the midplane. Surface extension should be in the 'Tools' menu, and simply pick the edge of the surface you want to extend, then set it to extend to face, and pick the face you want to extend to.

Good luck,
Doug
