Does international building code require anchoring HVAC and other equipment for all buildings or only critical facilities such as hospitals? Also, Does IBC, chapter 16, part 1604.9 the word “system” to include HVAC and other equipment?

You need to refer to ASCE 7-05, Chapter 13 for equipment anchorage for seismic.
Chapter 6 has wind design loads. There's no explicit guidance on anchorage for wind, but it's inferred that if the wind would move the equipment, you need to anchor it.

Thanks Jed. That is exactly what I found out.

And you need to provide the direct anchorage to the framing for all types of buildings, not just critical structures.

A voice from the past. Welcome back, Lutfi. Somebody was asking about you recently...can't remember who, but glad you are back.

Ditto, Lutfi. Glad you're back. The commentary in ASCE 7 goes through the anchorage issue.

Thanks folks.. I am still around. Life has kept busy. I hope to resume participation in the forum.
