I am investigating a column base plate anchored on top of a concrete pedestal using American Codes. I have an applied factored shear load which, unfortunately, exceeds the shear breakout capacity of the anchorage.
According to ACI 318-14, reinforcements within the lesser of 0.5ca1 and 0.3ca2 from the anchor centerline should be included as anchor reinforcement. It is also mentioned that strut-and-tie models may be used to design the anchor reinforcement.
That being said, should the reinforcing ties of the concrete pedestal be within min(0.5ca1,0.3ca2) of the anchor centerline for the strut and tie method be applicable?
