I am looking for some example calculations to use as a reference for anchor chair design for tanks (17-24 foot diameter)with small internal pressures (8 oz/psi to 16 oz/psi) built to API 650. An excel sheet would be wonderful, but I may be pushing my luck looking for something like that.

Any information would be appreciated. I just want to make sure I am on the right track with my calculations.

Thank you

I suggest that you contact the Steel Plate Fabricators Association and request a copy of their booklet Useful Information on the Design of Plate Structures. This is the document referenced by API-650, Appendix F. I believe that single copies are offered free of charge, but I'm not sure.

Yup, that's a good reference. I hadn't looked at my copy for a while, but realized it would actually answer lots of people's questions on this forum. Anchor bolt chair design, the original Zick paper for saddles, partial volumes of heads, etc. etc.

The paper referred to is Volume 2 of "Steel Plate Engineering Data" (Volume 1 is "Steel Tanks for Liquid Storage") available from the AISI as a two volume set for $50 at

Steve-

Yes, it is one physical document, but it has two sections to it. The cover reads "Steel Plate Engineering Data, Volume 1- Steel Tanks for Liquid Storage, Volume 2 - Useful Information on the Design of Plate Structures"
