Aluminium bases are used in prototiping mould, or for complex shape and small number of injection.

-Machinability it's high

-you can make a mould for 10,000-20,000 pc but without reability will not resist more then that.

- you must verify the pressure for closing mould

....

As pointed out by adicar01, it depends on the production run or the number of cycles you expect from the mold.

One main concern is the crushing strength of that grade of Al. Normally one can expect a clamping pressure of 3 to 4 tons per square inch for injection molding. Please check this out.

Machinability should definitely be a plus for Al and that is one of the reasons that it is vastly used in prototype molds.
