Aluminum Inclinometer Casing?

The Slope Indicator website notes that aluminum inclinometer casing is no longer recommended. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is it due to temperature, noise, flexibility? We have a specification out to tender that calls for aluminum casing.

I believe that the main reason for dropping aluminum casings is much greater cost without any increase in quality. I have installed many miles of inclinometer casing and not one foot of it has been aluminum.

Originally, the manufacturing processes and materials for plastic casings were not near as good as they are today. As a result the aluminum casing was of a better quality, less spiral was the bid item I believe.

I would recommend specing a plastic casing from Slope Indicator or approved equal, and be picky if you approval something else.

It also sounds like they are implying corrosion issues with long-term aluminum inclinometer installations.
