I would like to get some input on how to ideally handle alternative work schedules. My company works on a 9/80 schedule; 9 hours Monday through Thursday, 8 hours one Friday, and the alternate Friday off. I created a standard calendar with the non-working Fridays identified every fortnight, and adjusted the working time for Monday - Thursday to be 9 hours. I have the calendar displayed to be this calendar. The resources for the company are all referencing this calendar.

When I create tasks, however, the hours are not coming out right. For example, a three day task that starts on Monday will still only register for 24 hours not 27!

I would appreciate any assistance, as I am trying to use Project to estimate resources to manage my time and to produce reliable quotes.
Best regards,

You have setup the calendar correctly for your resources, and have each resources using that given calendar.

Check the following two spots which will be utilized to calculate the time duration for task.

On the your gantt chart highlight the desired task.
Double click in the grey area and a Task Information sheet should appear.
Go to the advance tab.
Under calendar select your calendar which shows your companies working time.
Check that the times are as per your estimates.

The second spot to check is the Task Type.
If the task is to be fixed amount of time, no matter how many resources are added, the select "Fixed Duration". If you have a set amount of time, but you do not care the percentage of each resource is assigned to your task select "Fixed Work" it automatically calculates the resource percentage (this may mess up your resource calculation though). The default is "Fixed Units" and the time is automatically calculated (reduced) as you add or subtract resources.

Hope this helps.

babyyoda,

Thanks for the help. Still will only show 24 hours (3x8) when 3 days are entered as the duration. I am looking for 27 hours with 3 nine hour days. I can hard code the full number of hours, but even that will mess around with the % of the resources. Very frustrating. %-(

Hi Matthew,

I gave it a try. Any you are right, if you enter the duration as 3 days it calculates 24 hours. However, if you enter the duration in hours (27 h), it shows the proper time frame. If I find a better way I will let you know.
