I need to show a before and after modification (alternate position view) for a part. I don't want to insert this part into an empty assy and chg configs there because I will have to redo model properties. If this were just one part no problem but we may be looking at this for close to 100+ parts.

Tap,
There are several suggestions in the thread mentioned above. However, none of them will work easily if your pre-mod geometry obscures post-mod. One other solution would be to create the drawing of your completed part's as-modified configuration. Then create a drawing view in the same orientation referencing the pre-mod configuration, changing its component line font to phantom. Lock position on the post-mod view, then align pre-mod view horizontally then vertically and lock its position. You won't be able to add any dimensions between the two views, however, as you can with a true alt. pos. view in an assembly. Depending on your macro writing skills, and with a little planning ahead, you may be able to automate the process of superimposing the phantom view.
