Alloy 6 Weld Procedure 1

Can someone point me in the right direction. I need a weld procedure for overlaying Alloy 6 on a 316 shaft in 2 places on the shaft each about 3" long. The shaft will be undercut and will be straightened and machined after overlay.
 
Alloy 6 is is also called Stellite 6, and is considered a cobalt-base alloy for wear resistance. You really need to qualify a weld procedure for this application.

I would suggest using ASME B&PV Code, Section IX as a guide for the weld procedure specification and for qualifying the procedure using the requirements in Article 2, QW-216, Hard-Facing weld Metal Overlay.

How will the shaft be straightened?
 
Thanks for the pointer. We can straighten the shaft in one of two ways. On a hydraulic press with indicator or in v-blocks on a horiz. boring mill table with indicators. Using a stud and nut with a clamp to more accurately guage the amount of force we are applying.

Stellite 6 is not the most forgiving material to use in this application. I would be concerned with inducing any bending stress in this region during straightening. If you need to straighten this shaft after local hardfacing, I would as a minimum perform a Liquid Penetrant test over each region that contains hardfacing and surrounding base material (1" distance) to assure you did not crack the Stellite 6.
