Allowable weld symbol?

I have a quick and probably simple question, but I haven't found in AWS2.4 where this is specifically addressed.

I have a build to print project with first article requirements. One weld symbol shows a stitch weld, 20mm on 100mm spacing, all around. My first impression was, you can't do that, if you weld it all around, then it isn't stitch welded. I believe what they want is stitch welding around the circumference, but I don't know if they are using the weld symbol correctly.

Again, I looked at AWS2.4, but it either isn't specifically addressed or I am just plain missing it, which is very possible. Thanks for any help.

Just put the all-around symbol on the break in the arrow with your stitch weld notation and you will have a stitch weld all around you circumference. The stitch part is the 20mm on 100 mm.

Hi Folks,

A circumference? Like a pipe? That's an old, trick weld symbol question AWS throws out. You stop where you start, so you are always on the arrow side of the joint. Detail it just like a stitch weld on one side of a cover-plate, for example, and a full, sealing fillet on the other. You don't need a weld all around symbol at all. Just layout your stitch like you would a plate. The weld all around symbol doesn't hurt anything. It just doesn't add any more information.
