Does anyone know where (if anywhere) there is language specifically prohibiting welding of the moment plates to the column web, as graphically excluded from Figure 12-2 (page 12-5) of the 13th edition manual? A few pages later, there is a graphic which shows the plate welded to the web.
Part of me thinks that it may be good practice to weld the moment plate to the web to increase ductility in the moment plate, and check the web for stiffeners.
