For combined member capacities the 14th Edition uses Eq H1-1a nd 1b but no limiting equation as per the 9th Edition i.e Eq H1-2. Checking some columns that have H1-1a < 1.0 but reviewing capacities based on combined stress gives a resultant stress exceding Yield. Structure is a no sway frame with beta1 = 0.6 and beta2 approx 0. Is this acceptable when using the LRFD 14th Edition.

Read the commentary for section H1. There is a statement on page 16.1-332 that says, "...the cross section is assumed to be fully yielded in tension and compression."

Many thanks JAE - Thus for symmetric members you do not have to also design check using the 14th edition equation H2-1 where as in the 9th edition, use must use both equations H1-1 and H1-2
