Air release valve / air cushion valve

Not really, but "air cushion" has a number of different applications and connotations. air release valve tends to simply release air from pipes which should n't have air in them, usually water lines with valves located at high points to release the air then close when the water gets their. Sometimes the ARV is "cushioned" to prevent shock waves.
