I working a project where I have to build an apparatus to test air flow rates through small filters. I will be using 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe and either a set of orifices or a venturi tube to measure the air flow rates. The air flow needs to have bi-directional air flow capabilities so in the case of using a venturi tube, the inlet cone length will need to be the same as the outlet cone length. The gas will be regular air.
The test parameters will be:
Test pressure: 20-28 in. H2O
Differential pressure: 0-6 in. H2O
Air Flow Rate: 0-700 SCFM
Questions:
1. Would this equation, PV=nRT, be the correct one to use?
2. What assumption should be made?
3. How do you convert these diferential pressures to find velocity and from there to convert to SCFM?
4. Recommended design of the ventrui tube? Length and angles of the cones? Center section ID relative to the large ID?
