Hi,

For upcoming turnaround, internal inspection will be performed in some Air-Cooler heat exchangers and we want to be prepare in case of heat exchanger header thread damage is found. Repair methods like the ones describe below are suggested:
- Oversize the hole and use and oversize plug (machining oversize hole, oversize gasket seat and tapping will be required.
- Build up damage area by welding, machine hole and tapping to standard plug dimension.

Due to limited execution time frame and resources, instead of performing any of the two repairs listed above we are evaluating seal weld the plug to the header as repair method and permanent repair by any of the method listed above will be performed during next turnaround.

Kindly request your advice in regards to the proposed repair method.

May be installing helical-coil threaded insert. See ASME PCC-2
