Sirs:
I am preparing the seismic design criteria of a very
large bottom supported tank.Due to the size and importance of the tank I am thinking to use a coupled FE model that
incorporates the tank and its contents. With such a model
the hidrodynamic interaction I hope will be best accounted than
using a first "sloshing mode" as in the API 650.
Does anybody have experience on using ADINA for this?
Best regards,Capablanca

There are several general FEA programs that have been used to include fluid-structure interaction. ADINA and NASTRAN both have modifications that solve this class of problem.

I find it far easier to use a specific formulated program rather than meeting the requirements for a successful solution using the above "hogs". The NISEE Software Library has programs written by Nash that are designed to include a fluid mass matrix.

At my references 10, 12, 13 and 15 demonstrate just this class of problem. Notice, I have been talking about including a mass matrix and not considering slosh modes. Slosh modes generally do not produce significant pressures compared to seismic effects that correspond to axisymmetric (n=0) and lateral (n=1)fourier harmonics..
