Hello all,

I am working on modeling two layers of wood bonded together with glue. To model the adhesive/glue layer in Abaqus, there is the cohesive zone method, but this method is intended to investigate failure/damage such as delamination. My goal is to evaluate the the effect of the adhesive layer on the moisture diffusion in wood. So there is no damage analysis in my simulation.

What would be an appropriate method to model the adhesive layer in my simulation?

Thanks

You could model the layer with shell elements sandwiched between solids. There can be some issues with interactions but they shouldn't be difficult to resolve. If it doesn't work, solid elements can be considered.
