Adding a new thread standard to nx502 file

I'm trying to add a new thread standard to the nx502_Threaded_Hole_Standard.xml file. After the new standard and data are added to the file and I reopen NX the hole command has error's and there are not any thread standard's available in the drop down menu.

I'm using NX9 and was able to upload the xml file. I have been able to modify the original standards but I haven't been able to create a new standard.

I had no problem adding a bunch of stuff representing some odd-ball standard thread to the 'nx502_Threaded_Hole_Standard.xml' file and having that 'odd-ball' thread appear as one of the available standards. However, you do have to be very careful when editing an XML file as complex as the 'Threaded Hole Standard'. I've found that it's best to use 'WordPad' to edit XML files, at least in this case, as it makes it very easy to see each 'entry' in the file. If you're going to do something like this it would be best to copy & paste some set of current thread data that's close to what you want and then edit the contents rather than just starting to type in something new from scratch.

Here it is, the row that I added was common threads.

The way that I modified it was to open the file in excel.

Using WordPad I was able to modify the file and make it work.

I have checked at your xml file. By default, it was opened in Excel. Did you edit xml with Excel? Maybe this is the reason for the problems.
For example, I have over 3000 lines in my xml file and the size of the file is 2069KB. Your file has over 2400 lines, yet the file size is 4769KB. So, there are probably some data in your xml, that can not be recognized by NX.

I would advise the same as JohnRBaker already did. Try to edit this xml file in Wordpad or Notepad. I have copied and paste one line in Notepad, then change the standard and some parameters. And it worked.

OK, I did what I suspect you did (only I used WordPad); I opened the current threaded hole standard file, performed a copy & paste of the 'Inch UNC' thread '#8-32' data set, and then edited the "Inch UNC" entry to read "Common Threads" and it works fine (see attached file). The way our systems are set-up, we don't use Excel to edit XML files so I couldn't test what would happen if I tried editing my threaded hole standard file using Excel. And for the record, I just checked and it appears that our developers use whatever text editor they're most comfortable with (the guy I talked to still uses 'vi' as he's really an old-timer), but I was told that Excel is NOT the way to go as it attempts to reformat what is ostensibly a simple 'text' file into something which Excel considers as being a proper XML schema which unfortunately makes the file incompatible with NX. As I've stated, I always use WordPad and I've never had any problems (as long as I don't mess up the syntax or misplace something ;-).
