I got an invoice from SW VAR which has an additional $100.00 charge for a remote assistance tool as an option for virtual tech. It seems to me this is primarily for their benefit so why should/would I pay it. Just curious, are others paying this?

I wouldn't.

Ever used the add-in from SolidJott.com? I wonder if it's something like this? (But I'm pretty sure you don't get charged at using the Solid Jott add-in.)

Do you need remote assistance? Do you need ANY assistance? That seems to be the point of disgruntlement among many users of late is that they're charged for services they don't use--such as "support".

We have never had to use the remote assistance as usually the firewall is shut down to outside "help" so it's a moot point. Tell them you don't want it and consider how many times in the past, you have used it.

If you plan on using tech support then remote sessions are very useful. That being said, the costs associated with remote assistance (e.g., LogMeIn) are usually dealt with on the VAR's end and simply included in the overall support cost.

Whether your VAR provides quality support is another issue.

If they mean WebEX or GoToMeeting or anything like that, that cost is covered by them as part of the yearly subscription. It's their choice to employ those tools to better serve their customer. I wouldn't pay that. you'll prolly get the same service from them regardless to this fee.

Thank you all for your input. I highly value this forum and the informed SW users opinions/knowledge here. I will not be paying for the "remote assistance" option. Thanks.
