Hallo,

I am performing a simulation in underwater acoustics. For this purpose, I need to include the soil. I have a soil expertise, so I know the unit weight of the sand over the depth.

What I need to know is, how to get the schear- and compression sonic speed of wet sand from a given unit weight.

Does anyone know a correlation? I would be also thankful for recommendations of good literature.

you may get some insight from a geophysicist.

You might try calling Dr. Robert Koerner at the Geosynthetic Institute in Folsom, PA. While at Drexel University, he did much research into acoustic emissions of soils under stress. He may be able to help you.

Thank you for your fast reply. The literature of Dr. Koerner looks interesting but seems not to be what I was looking for. Can you recommend a good textbook of geophysics which could answer my question?

Thank you,
Marco
