As per this the area of skin reinforcement on each face per foot of height shall be greater than or equal to 0.012(d-30).
In the same clause at the last sentence, it says that the total area of longitudinal skin reinforcement in both faces need not exceed the one-half of the required flexural tension reinforcement.
in our one of the example
deep beam size 8" x 144 " with the given uniform loading
requires
a. Flexural reinforcement - 4 sq.in
b. Skin reinforcement - 1.326 sq.in/ft on each face. as per the clause total area of skin reinforcement requires at spacing of 12" - 15.912 sq.in
calc:
on each face - 1.326 sq.in / ft
should be places d/2 distance from the flexural reinforcement - i.e 140.5/2 = 70.25 in
spacing should be lesser of d/6 or 12"
so on each face - 6 no of bars required so say 6*1.326 = 7.956 sq.in
so totally on the both faces - 2* 7.956 = 15.912
But as per the last sentence skin reinforcement need not be more than 2 sq.in (1/2*4 sq.in)
Please clarify on this point and your input always be appreciated.
