I'm currently specifying components for a machine which is to use a free-standing 11kW hydraulic power pack. I usually use Harting type connectors for valve control circuits; no problem there. However, is it acceptable to use the industrial standard red 3-pole+E circular IP44 connectors as part of a machine's interconnection scheme, or are these reserved for building installations?

Thanks, Steve.

As far as I'm aware these connectors are perfectly acceptable on a machine, provided that they are used for their intended voltage / current. I would be wary of using them for anything other than taking power in and out at 415V 3P+E. There's too much risk of someone connecting something incorrectly otherwise.
