Hi Fellows

I am designing a not spill - through abutment (which means also act as the retaining wall). And I am finding difficulty to find out when is the maximum over turning moment happen, I means at which point under M1600 (AS5100).
What I means is when the load is moving, part of the load on the deck will create the overturn of the abutment by eccentricity, and another part pass the abutment will has the surcharge load cause the abutment overturn.
I just don't know when create the critical overturning.

Thank you.

You have to check 4 conditions:
Dead load only
Dead load plus live load surcharge
Dead load plus live load on superstructure
Dead load plus LL surcharge plus LL on superstructure

Unless you have an unusual arrangement, the LL on the superstructure should just be the maximum LL reaction applied at the bearing.

Depending on where you are, you might also need to check seismic, and there might be other lateral loads to check.
