About material hardness

Dear Friends ,
i am referring few ASTM standards for material acceptance. so few questions here.

For ASTM A216 material : why does hardness is not given for material acceptance?
Same for ASTM A 182 : Hardness is not given for 316 and F51 Grade.
Same for ASTM B 564 standard : Hardness is not given .

Any specific reason for not giving hardness for acceptance criteria?

For ASTM A216 material : why does hardness is not given for material acceptance?

Because hardness is not needed for these carbon steel grades. There is no specific heat treatment that requires hardness testing to verify compliance.

Same for ASTM A 182 : Hardness is not given for 316 and F51 Grade.

Again, not needed for acceptance as above.

Same for ASTM B 564 standard : Hardness is not given .

Not needed, as above.

There are also many cases in specs where the requirement is actual tensile strength, so no hardness requirement is needed.

In cases where it is impractical to perform tensile testing AND the material is ferritic steel (like A216 in your question), you can take hardness and convert to estimated tensile strength (and vice versa) per ASTM A370.
