my ULTIMATE goal is to create drawings in which EVERYTHING can be updated by defining some values from Database like Excel and then use single-mouse click and GO...

through 2 months of work, most of my time is spent on doing drawing automation process. For example, in the Excel, i change some integer number from 1 to 2, then the model will suppress some features and bring up another features. At the same time, some dimensions on the drawing will be suppressed to be consistent with the change of the model.

through many people's help here, i can use journal to update model, update drawing, export to PDF by one-mouse button click..

However, even though this is my 2 months work, it is still like prototype to me...

my ultimate goal is to make the drawing FULLY automatic which is the difficult part I am facing. For example, in the manufacturing, we have a drawing sheet called process illustration sheet which shows the cutting tool, section view of a part, depth of cut, tolerance, etc, etc. For each machining step, the same tool may be used for the next step OR a different tool will be used to cut another features. When I talk about AUTOMATION, in fact, everything is PRE-DEFINED on the master drawings. Because 2, 3 or 10 drawings share similar functionality, it's better to use database to control the drawing so that each time you dont have to modify drawing manually.

here is the biggest obstacle: for example, a part has lots of features which lead to lots of section views. In each machining step, I need to present the section view and the tool so that people can see how the tool cutting action looks like in this machining step. How am i going to automatically change the section view AUTOMATICALLY each time a different machining step is engaged?? Is it possible to do in NX ?

As I am still learning NX, I really dont know what's the capability of automation drawing processing in NX, people talk about TeamCenter, I havent had any exposure to this, how powerful is teamcenter is when connected with NX?

Based on your experiences, has the industry started to something what I am doing already? I understand we have draftman... but it's really painful to do such things manually, why not do it automatically? Or it's really not ready to get this work done?

Any suggestion are welcomed or point out my mistake if you feel i am in the wrong way or wrong method..

going back to question again, and I forsee it's almost impossible.....

this idea may sound crazy and even I myself ask the possibility of this task but I am just trying to try my supervisor's objective: if the drawings and models are pre-defined, a standard set which can be quickly modified by database ONLY, no interaction with the models and drawing unless you want to change something....

i really dont know..
