Does anynoe know a shortcut to calculate heat transfer between fluid in insulated pipe atmosphere and also between insulated storage tank and surrounding air?
thanks

Try "Process Heat Transfer", by D.Q. Kern. This is classic book for heat transfer and includes a step by step method for determining heat loss by a pipe or vessel besides other valuable info.

You may also want to visit
and get the 3E Plus software as well as the user guide that goes with it.

The 3E software is fine. Many tracing/insulating companies will have essentially slide rules that for a given insulation thickness, type of insulation, pipe size and dT will give you the heat loss per ft of pipe.

They seem to give consistent answers with my spreadsheet.

If you want to understand the theory behind different types of heat transfer, Kern is one of the classic books to have.
