Hi all,
Is there anyone out there who has a copy of Blevins who can copy me a few pages which I need to consult ?
The pages concerned are p. 35-39 and p. 43- 46.
Thanks for your help in advance.

You are undoubtedly strictly correct Sir, however it is widely accepted that the odd few pages here or there is OK.
Is anyone willing to take the 'risk' (I know I would), or is everyone too busy, downloading music maybe ! :)

When you say "Blevins" what, exactly, do you mean? I Google the word and I come across "Blevins Product Catalog" which is free for the taking. Even if someone copied something are you sure you would be getting the right document?

mmm .... strictly correct young sir, I am of course referring to R.D. Blevins ....... Formulas for Natural Frequency and Modeshape, quoted in my source reference as 1984 edition although I believe there was a first edition in 1979 and maybe a newer one since then

I suppose there would not be much difference so I would appreciate the pages from any version available.

Thanks

A used copy doesn't look to be horrifically expensive:

Young sir? Neither fits, especially the latter (never wanted to be the opposite gender). You'll find Eng-Tips to be much more helpful if you give us complete information the first time around.

here, here regarding cryptic queries

a great website if used properly

I find it very interesting how many people assume that everyone to whom they are addressing a question has the same background and experience they do. I've been in the field for a VERY long time and I had no idea what "Blevins" was. Now that I know I understand why I had never heard of it - never had any need for it. I'll bet there are many references I could make based on my experience that the OP wouldn't have any understanding of either.

I actually thought he was looking for information on a BLEVE (i.e. a Boiling Liquid, Expanding Vapor Explosion).

If you go much beyond "Marks", "Roarke", or "Perry" your chance of getting meaningful information simply by calling out the author's name decreases rapidly.

I believe it is permitted under law to use a small amount of copyrighted material for research or educational (as opposed to commercial) purposes. Been a while since I read it.

When I was developing a public course a couple of years ago I looked into this. It is perfectly legal to quote Copyrighted material (with proper citations). It is only legal to make a physical copy of that material: (1) for personal use (such as copying a graph to mark on); or (2) with the permission of the owner. If I had the book (which I don't) and made the OP a copy then it is hard for me to see how that activity would come under either of the exclusions.

This falls under "Fair Use" clause of the US copyright law, since the number of pages is low compared to the total number of pages: 492.

At least 2 people on this thread know exactly what book he is after, and at least one of them has a copy of said book, albeit 2500 km away. While I agree it wasn't the best phrased question in the world, it spoke to the correct audience. So cut the noob some slack.

Patricia, thank-you for the good humour on an otherwise uneventful afternoon. A star, even though it isn't for technical content.

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

noob = noobie = someone new to the group? Generally seems to indicate a fondness and a certain level of tolerance for minor violations of informal group etiquette. Generally not used as a pejorative. Often used as a reminder to others that the new poster cannot be expected to understand and use informal group practices perfectly.

Similar to “Cut the new kid some slack. (S)he ain’t perfect yet like usn’s is.”

Generally indicates tolerance, humor and affection.
