how far can a 6" steel pipe span freely without supports in the middle? i have a 40 foot 6" steel pipe that i am trying to span 40 feet and i was hoping to do this without having supports in the center of it.. can i truss it on the top to strengthen it? it will be used for steam to pass through so the weight wont be dramaticaly changing all the time ... help me please

the thickness is 3/8" and it has a 2" thick insulation on it

If no deflection criteria and no wind or seismic loading is considered: then a 6" diameter pipe A53 Grade B at 21 ksi stress can span more than 60 feet.
