Anyone can help out? looking got the major, Pitch and minor for an external & internal thread tolerance. Machine handbook only covers 5 1/8 and 5 1/4. this 5 3/16"is an old odd ball thread.

This is freeware that will get you the information you are looking for:

A much better long term solution would be to buy a thread calculator that will give a more comprehensive output (inspection data, coating thickness, etc.) like this one:

Of coarse, if you are going to rely on free software it would be a really good idea to be able to make the calculations yourself so that you can double check now and then.

I'm looking in ASME B1.1-2003 and it lists no 5 3/16-16 UN thread.

So there is no such thread.

However, 5 3/16-16 UNS would be a legitimate thread. Essentially 'special' or custom.

I believe any decent machineries handbook or similar should have the equations, or at least information to allow you to work it out.

faq404-1480 Also gives you some helpful information and links to help you work it out.

Just remember, if it's on the internet & free can you trust it?

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of faq731-376 recently, or taken a look at posting policies:

Darn Lumen, you were posting while I typed and beat me to it. I still suggest the OP look at the FAQ though.

"I still suggest the OP look at the FAQ though." And perhaps do a topic search next time too....

I beat you to it? BooYah! I've been logged in nearly everyday for three years and I finally have something of moderate value to add. Yessss...

thanks for all the input.... yes this thread is a custom "special thread" the we had 2 parts from the 50's but no drawings for them..... So I started measureing the major of the external and using in the machinery's handbook and interpolating the tolerances from a 5", 5&1/8", 5&1/4" came up with the piches and minors of course the thread was about .050" under the what a 5&3/16" would be.... and is the new part were made to 5 3/16 they would not interchange.... so to all thanks for the links to verify I was not out in left field when spec'ing out this thread....
