410 Stainless

Is 410 stainless suitable for use on raw screened sewage applications?

This particular application is for a turbine impellor, and as such the higher strength would be desirable but the lower resitance to corrosion is not so desirable, but is it adequate for long life (say 40 -50 years)?

You will get pitting corrosion,if the raw sewage contains chlorides. That may not hurt the functionality of the impellor. A greater potential problem, if you're using the 410 at hardness above Rc 20, is stress corrosion cracking.
Can you design this in a duplex grade like 2205? That would give you good strength and resistance to both pitting and SCC.

Will this be fabricated or cast?
There are some low alloy duplex grades that would be less expensive than 2205 that may work fine.
410 does not like SRBs either, so it might not be the best choice.

I will look for a newer ref that invludes some of the lower alloy grades.
