How far can I reliably and accurately transmit a 4-20 mA Signal over a twisted pair shielded cable? I need to go about 150 ft. What AWG cable should I use? I'll be connecting a voltage/current meter with a 4-20mA output to a PLC.
150 feet should be no problem, assuming this is the only device on the loop. You can go 1000 ft fairly easily. I've seen over 5000 feet. I'd suggest 18 AWG shielded, twisted-pair (ground shield at PLC ONLY).
