i've got a '85 monte carlo ss w/a small block 350 and the 3rd 700r4 blew up so i got a used th400 i'm wondering what modifications are needed to do this

The cross member, drive shaft, & rear gears need to be
changed. The shifter cable & kickdown cables need to
be slightly modified. The exaust hanger @ the cat will
not fit but can be fudged. You'll need to find a vacuum
sorce for the modulator. You may need to drill to mount
the cross member. There isn't a 'right' gear ratio for
this combo given your tire size. 3.10:1 is the closest
but your speedo will still be off. To determine the
correct drive shaft length, measure the difference in
length of the 2 trannys & find (or have made) a shaft
with EXACTLT the same difference. I hate those overdrive
trannys too.
