I need the U.S equivalent of 34CrMo4V. I find 34CrMo4 translates to approximately 4135 steel, but I can't find an equivalent for the 34CrMo4V. Thanks in advance for the help.
34CrMo4 is a standard European grade just like 4135 is a standard SAE grade in SAE J404 and SAE AMS 6372. 34CrMo4V is not a standard grade. There is an informal method of specifying V to be alloyed into steels by simply adding the letter V to the designation: 34CrMo4V or 41V35 (some may use 4135V instead). Either way, the intention is to specify that sufficient V is added to prevent grain growth during austenitization while contributing some additional strength as well. This V concentration is typically ~ 0.05-0.25.
According DIN 17200, Steels for quenching and tempering, Table1, Page 14, code letter "V" added at the end of a steel grade means that material is supplied in quenched and tempered condition.
