G'day all,

As you most all know by now, there was a major explosion in Bangkok that has killed in the order of 20 and injured far more. This, of course, was buried on page 3 or 5 of the New York Times - hey, it is only Bankok!

Bangkok has a special place in my family's hearts . . . we have a condominium in Hua Hin and look forward one day to retire to the country of Siam. We have, over the last 15 years, spent about 10 to 20 days a year in Bangkok - a wonderful place; then to have this despicable act happen - bloody sad.

I first visited the Erawan Shrine back in 1990 when I was in Bangkok looking at a potential Skytrain line along Rama IV. I can't count the number of times that we have walked past the Shrine and taken pictures. It was, and is, a beautiful place - right in the heart of Sukhimvit Road - a major shopping/entertainment district. So many people praying and visiting the Shrine.

What brings this home even more is that our daughter has moved from the beautiful isle of Bali to Bangkok to study Graphic Arts at an Italian School. She has been there since mid-July but at the time of the explosion, she and Luky and I were all in Bali attending Melissa's graduation from Stenden University. I'm thankful that she was with us and not there; but then again, just think of all that were there earlier that day; the day before; and, well, it is a crap shoot I guess as if you have drawn the short straw of being somewhere when shit (pardon the expression) hits the fan . . . . She is on her way back to Bangkok in about 3 more days (23rd).

I have attached a picture of our visit in February of this year to the Shrine - and a photo taken from the New Straits Times to show the before and after.

If you have never visited Thailand - I would still strongly suggest it; a beautiful country. And while in the area, drop in on Bali and Singapore if in December.

Cheers to all - thanks for your time . . . .
