I've been tasked with designing a small steel "cabin" out of shipping containers this weekend in Santa Cruz. My design and calculations will be reviewed/stamped by a Cali licensed engineer. (I'm only responsible for the structural engineering, not the arch design and I'll be testing in October for a Cali CE)
I do not own the 2007 CBC and I am wondering if it is essential to have for this design. Of course I'm in Cat D on a slight slope. Did the 2007CBC ammend/alter structural provisions? Thanks for the advice. I will be getting it eventually, but just need to know if I have to have it for my weekend project.

Yes, it does ammend/alter structural provisions. However it depends on what you are looking. FYI. We are going to the 2010 CBC at the end of this year, so save your money.

Don't put any earth against the steel, and you might want to ground it...and very well.
