2 meter steel pipe expansi=n joint

Hi every one, i need to design a 2m dia EJ. Being honnest, i dont know how, or where to begin. The pipe is placed bewteen two concrete tanks. Its length is 65 m. The pipe is made of SA 516gr70. Do i need an EJ, there is no place to use a Expansion loop. Pelase help me, thanks for your replys

Isn't "m" the abbrevition for meters?
Don't see how you can't fit an expansion loop in 65 m.

Pphawk, can you give us a bit more, such as pressure, fluid, temp etc. If the pipe size is 2000 mm, this is pretty big. For 65 m, the actual expansion will be quite small so you may be able to use bellows or sliding joint if the pressure is low. You normally find nozzle loading on tanks is very low and needs pipe not to exert any significant thermal expansion load. If you got a layout drawing or sketch load it up so that we can all see what your issue is.

Yeah, m is for meters, the fluid is water. Its an outdoor pipe. This pipe line is going to be usted for a hydroelectric Power plant. The pressure isnt big, i calculate its around 70 psi. The thermal expansion will be less than 1/2".
 
Sounds ideal for bellows. Try pipingtech.com or search pipe bellows

Littleinch, it is possible a Pipe bellow for a 2 m día ? In my country I will not find a bellow. May be there is another solution.
 
Yes, they make sizes bigger than this. Import it if you can't find one in country. If you need an expansion joint as you say then for the pressure rating and expansion this is the best way. Sometimes there is no easy answer.

Expansion joints up to 4m diameter used in Libya. provided the couplings. They have a technical presentation on te application if you cntact the representatives. Get them to design, supply and supervise the installation and take the design risk rather than be an enthusiastic amateur.

If the pipe is constrained between anchors check out the stresses. You may find that they are acceptable. Use an average temperature range not the extremes. Sydney's water supply is in DN2600 & DN3000 pipes. Flexible sliding joints were used to a custom design. It was a simple gland seal or a restrained bellows depending upon the head..
