How to stop the firing of the pulse generator board in a battery charger? would like to stop the firing the when the output current exceeds 30A. How this is done? Any additional materials/relays required?
@NickParker,
The charger has its own logic (IDK how old is your charger, newer chargers have). Don't tinker with the manufacturer's units. You will lose whatever warranties there are that way. When the batteries are fully charged, the dc amps will taper down.
Battery chargers do not accept much of overload. Thus, they are made with built-in regulator to restrict the current when there is sustained overload (due to a fault in DC system or otherwise) within design limits.
This is done by controlling the firing. If the limits (current as well as time) are exceeded, the charger may stop firing completely.
You may find more details in the manufacturer's literature.
May check what SCR pulse controller is used in "Pulses Gen Board", if any.
If it's a dedicate IC may found datasheet and is much easy to identify a pulse stop method (may be a dedicated enable pulse pin, or other method).
