Hi All
I have been made a offer to purchase a Galvanized 100m Steel Triangular Angle Lattice tower trough a sell off
,of a bankrupt company.
The company is in disarray and we can not get the design or make of the tower.
The Part stamps starts with K followed by a series of numerical s.
Here is some examples
K100 C0 1.1
K060 S05
K080 LEG 2
KO80 Leg 3
K080 Leg 1
Can some one please id or send me in a direction. I have a feeling this was made in the USA. I was involved in the erection of a "Back bone" back in 2003 and this has the same "feel"
Than you in advance.
Carl

What you have described are typical "piece marks" for erection. They probably give little or no clue as to the manufacturer unless the format of the numbers is unique. There are numerous tower manufacturers in the US and many have come and gone over the last 20 years. Many did not and do not "label" their towers.

My suggestion is that you have the tower inspected by a qualified engineering firm and re-analyzed for current codes and applicability if the use of the tower is being changed or modified. As an example, for cell phones, new analysis is typically necessary each time antennae are added and certainly if a dish is added.

Hi Ron
Thank you for your reply and noted.
All agreed and that will be done. I have some experience in the field and as this tower has been stored (for some years) out doors and never been erected and still looking very good with absolutely no wear and tear (it is in West Africa)i felt cost wise and quality wise it is something we can pursue.
Having the drawings/manufacturer on record will make it an easier decision to purchase or not and will also give us a complete tower member/parts list we can check.
We have unfortunately unscrupulous operates here that will certify anything, off course at the risk of the communities where these structures are erected. There was recently two towers that fell with loss of life involved.
We are also competing now against some very low quality stuff originating locally and in Asia.
Getting an Engineering firm involved is not an option, minimizing the costs by doing as much of leg work before that is done is also not an option but a must.

I hope some one recognize the markings and can point me in a direction.
Cheers
Carl

I agree with Ron. Based on the height, I am assuming the tower is a guyed with cables. You also need to find out what exactly it was supporting weight , location and project area wise. This is critical for anyone who will analyze the tower for you. I found it that the best thing to do is to contact the manufactures of the tower and ask them to certify/analyze based on current codes and anticipated loads.

Lutfi

Hi Lufti
