You definitely don't want to be the "FEA guy" in some companies. Running a "quick" FEA on an item to make sure it will handle 3x the load it was initially designed for because sales can say whatever they want to close the deal.
It sounds like management will boot him before he can get up to speed.

At least you have the chance to influence the design. I've worked with techs/fabricators who would make products and then use engineering to create drawings and models from the completed part. Of course, if a problem surfaced with the part, engineering was questioned on our design decisions...
I have been asked to monitor load induced pressure in a double acting cylinder using a pressure transducer or switch. This is intended to automate a process control or I would use a pressure gauge. I realize this is not as straightforward as load cells but I would like to use an existing...
So TiO2 is used as a UV stabilizer? One material manufacturer said it was an antioxidant and didn't specifically serve as a UV blocker. My thermoformer thinks the Marine board will form the same as regular HDPE.
I have a thermoformed HDPE cover that is used outdoors as a machine guard. After a few months in service the part becomes brittle and fails. Can anyone reccomend a material that has similar mechanical poperties with enhanced UV stability? The color must be white or a carbon black would be...
OSHA calls for a SF of 4 on platform components. The guardrails are 200 lbs for the top rail as mentioned above. The spec. only states the rail should support this weight without failure.
That right. Its not foolproof. The operators manually extend the outriggers using the control valve and use visual feedback to determine sufficient contact. The trucks are rated to be stable on slight inclines. So I could use a displacement sensor to trip the relay at a voltage corresponding to...
This is for outriggers on an aerial lift truck. Where the pressure is measured it will spike when the cylinders contact the ground but will drain off due to the valve characteristics.
Thanks for the help. It turns out where the pressure is sensed it will peak and then drain off. So i will need some sort or latching/holding method. Alternatively I am looking at displacement sensors in the cylinders. Is there a type of relay with adjustable latching voltage that would match...
Hi,
I have a hydraulic system I am working on that uses 2 pressure switches to safeguard/lockout the units power switch. This is a 12v DC system where both pressure switches must be tripped to allow the unit to recieve power. The sensed pressure may fluctuate while operating the unit so the...
Hello,
Currently I am designing a plastic cover. It will be mounted on a truck and will be exposed to the environment and possibly hydraulic fluid. the overall volume the part must cover is 2 by 3 by 1 feet. It will be mounted around a pivoting joint at the end or a boom. Its primary...
Congrats Gymeh,
I also have a low GPA that i attribute it to extracurricular activities. Also not all activities are irrelevant to your major, for example FSAE.
When in 2d sketch mode I can not dimension or constrain my sketch to the default datum planes or axis(x,y,z). I have tried adding work planes coincident to them with no luck. (offset plane distance 0.0). I haven't found anything in the help files to shed light on this.
